In December two students from each secondary school in the Willenhall Sports Partnership plus two students from Wolverhampton College of FE were nominated to become Young Ambassadors for their school / college.

The YA programme is funded by Youth Sports Trust and LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) therefore there is a strong emphasis on the Olympics. However, in the main the YA's role has other more far reaching aims:

  • Increase participation and promote healthy active lifestyles for other young people
  • Support other talented young sportspeople
  • Inspire learning through the Olympic and Paralympic Games and London 2012 across subjects in school
  • Raise awareness of the YA programme, London 2012 and the Olympic & Paralympic Games
  • Lead and empower other young people
  • Have an impact beyond the Sports Partnership

Sitting alongside the YA programme is the Youth Sports Trust's 'Leadership Academy' initiative.
The Leadership Academy is a team of sports leaders who work together to support the the PE department and the School Sport Co-ordinator both in their own secondary school / college and also their family of primary schools.
The two YA's from each school / college head up the Leadership Academy with support from the PE staff and SSCo in their school / college.

Students in the Leadership Academy will have the opportunity to take a number of coaching and refereeing courses throughout the year as well as basic first aid and child protection qualifications
